Metaswitch Forum flooded out

While no official word from either Metaswitch (www.metaswitch.com) or its PR firm has come out, it is likely that the Metaswitch Forum event scheduled to be held from May 17-20, 2010 in Nashville Tennessee has been called for rain. Lots of it. As in feet. As in “The Flood of 2010.”

A source outside of Metaswitch and its PR firm says the event has been “postponed” and an official statement is expected within the next day or two.

Originally scheduled to be held in the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, the facility was flooded out due to the torrential rains over the May 1-2 weekend.  Around 2,000 guests staying at the Gaylord were hastily evacuated on Sunday evening, May 2.  By 11 a.m. on Monday, May 3, “about 10 feet of rising water” was in the hotel and flood waters were reportedly still rising on Tuesday, according to a report in The Tennessean.

Levees surrounding the building were built to hold back water rising to 422 above sea level. Water started entering the hotel at around 11 p.m. on Sunday evening. Estimates are it could take “several months” before the hotel and conference facilities are restored, according to an official posting on a Gaylord Entertainment website.

Most of the damage appears to be in the common areas, with most of the facilities 2,800 guest rooms unaffected.
